In 1998, Midtown opened its doors to the academic community through the creation of its Book Development and Publishing Division (BookDev) as the company’s response to the call of the National Book Development Board (NBDB) to decentralize book publishing industry in the country.
More than an answer to this call, Midtown wanted to create an atmosphere of joy in learning for school children. Thus, the first preschool series was born: The Joy of Learning, the country’s first work-text printed in full color, penned and illustrated by local talents.
Outside the classroom, Midtown provided an avenue for aspiring Mindanaoan writers and authors to hone and develop their skills. Through its publishing arm, an opportunity was also opened for budding illustrators and book designers to showcase their talents.
Although learning materials for school children is the primary focus, Midtown also develops and publishes other titles of interest such as anthology, history, literature, and even church hymnals.
Committed to its main thrust in developing local talents and illustrators in Mindanao, this division is geared towards book development and publishing.
BookDev embraced the academic community by publishing its own line of book titles designed and penciled by inbred artists and adept authors in Mindanao.
